ok lets see if it works:

i over did it today.. i did zumba for 1 hour then strength trained for another hour, killer this one.. with high intensity weight lifting... and then my FIRE 30 workout...

i feel great, i had my shake, absolutely disgusting BTW.. initially i was like this is great, then 3 sips into it, i wanted to barf... but i vow to stick to my 30 days.... i made a great brown rice, sauteed chicken in 1/2 tsp olive oil, and veggies for dinner. lunch was a piece of salmon by itself.. had lets see snacks: salsa and veggies, granola bar (80 calories)

my calorie total 1220, with 2.5 hrs of working out.

best day so far....

tomorrows plan: kettlebell in am and then 55 minute fire EZ class.

its gonna be a long day with work from 10 am to 9 pm.

so will find a way i hope. thanks for reading .. and never overtrain, i paid for this so will not waste the money.

I keep meaning to come here and post, but I've been busy and blah blah.

So, I'm not doing anything hard core, but I am walking everyday and I get to go back to the gym tomorrow, actually to start my 3x a week gig there, so yay.

However….I did falter in my dietary discipline twice. On my birthday, I ate some pizza. But, I didn't eat any cake. And, I walked for an hour to counterbalance some of it. Also, one day last week, I was on my way home from campus and I felt nauseated and ill because I had been trying to just eat salad for a couple of days, so I caved in and had a cheeseburger and fries. I felt guilty though and I walked four miles the next morning. This is not the end of the world, but it might feel that way if it were an every day decision.

However, on my way home, I ran into Vanilla Ice at the cafe! He was filming a music video. I had no idea who he was because he was dressed like a hipster and wouldn't have known except that I overheard two men in curled handlebar mustaches talking to a woman in a very red bowler hat about it. I had been intrigued by the mustaches and the fact that they were talking about Murakami and totally overlooked the filming. Here's a link to the video. http://laist.com/2012/01/24/video_vanilla_ice_moves_to_echo_par.php . Enjoy.

Back to my avoiding the sugar and excess carbs and walking routine for now. Maybe next week, I'll kick things up another notch...

Zain, I agree that diet is very important. On the positive side, I located a grocery store! My bad habits come from eating things I know I shouldn't when I'm stressed out and on a deadline....like candy! So, I'm hoping to curb my sweet tooth for a while. Even gave up the sugar in my coffee!

Nunu, I agree that exercise is good at regulating our stress! My gym membership is on pause until...actually, until tomorrow, so I get to go back to the gym this week. In the meantime, uphill-ish walking for an hour a day isn't a bad thing at all. Clears your head, burns off some anger, etc.

I'm having to balance efforts between fitness goals and degree goals and I really just want to finish this dissertation and defend! So, I'm prioritizing the defense and making some time to manage my fitness and increase awareness, as well (this one is ongoing, but....that's the main reason I'm not participating in the contest; I don't have the time or energy to devote myself fully to the challenge and don't want to compete when I know my efforts won't be 100%).

However, lifestyle changes are a good thing and everyone should be more healthy!

You can do this at home. I believe all you need is a pullup bar. Should cost about 15 to 20 dollars.

I was thinking...maybe we should change the measurement to just raw weight lost according to the scale. The reason I say this is because body impedance measurements for fat % aren't really that accurate. It might have even made a difference based on what we were wearing.

Just a thought; I think it should be considered.

What do you guys think?

I was 192.5 lbs at the weigh in. I'm down to 183.4 lbs this morning.

I added 10 lbs to my bench, 5 lbs to my overhead press, 10 lbs to my deadlift, and 10 lbs to my squat. I can now do about 15 dips in a row with ease. Pull ups were always a challenge for me, and I'm getting better at them; I can do about 6 in a row now, underhanded.

New numbers are:
Bench: 175 lbs
Squat: 245 lbs
Overhead Press: 110
Deadlift: 265 lbs

My goal for Bench/Squat/Deadlift is 200/300/400. I've got a long way to go.

Biggest obstacles: weekends and going to the gym in the evenings. On the weekends I get so bored. Every one is going out to eat or do hookah or whatever and I don't really want to go anywhere and get tempted to eat or smoke, so I end up staying in alot. I sort of hate rest days, wish I could go to the gym more often. Going to the gym at night sucks because it gets CROWDED. There are just too many people and NOBODY re-racks their weights. Sometimes, I feel like I don't need to do any warm ups because of all the plates I have to take off of the barbell when I first get in there.

How about you guys? Progress? Achievements? Frustrations?
